The
Early Classic Chun-On complex contains the first appearance of Classic
polychromes in the Dos Arroyos and Timucuy groups. This time period is marked by
the disappearance of the Sierra group and the predominance of the unslipped
Saban group.
Test pit 11, levels 11-14 at the northwest corner of the Great Platform
provides a cut from the Early Classic, as well as test pit 5 in the Entrance
Plaza Group provide evidence of the Early Classic at Muyil.
Saban group vessel forms that appear elsewhere are jars (as ollas or
tecomates) with lugs or handles, and bowls.
