group not specified:
The Late Classic/Terminal Classic Chun-Yaah complex is dominated by Viste
Alegre Striated as the major unslipped type and Muna Slate as the major slipped
type. Classic polychromes, which made their appearance in the previous period (Tituc
Orange Polychrome of the Timucuy group) appear in this period in the Palmar,
Petkanche, and Saxche groups.
Test pit 52, in levels 11-12 begins with the Late Classic Vista Alegre
accompanied by Saxche Orange Polychrome, and shows the arrival of Muna Slate in
level 10, with Vista Alegre continuing until it is swamped by the Late
Postclassic Navula Unslipped in level 4. In pit 11 levels 6-10 the combination
of Vista Alegre with Muna Slate is also apparent. As described in detail in
Chapter 8 below, Dzitas Slate (associated with Chichen Itza) arrives during this
period, but after the onset of Muna Slate.
Vessel forms from the Viste Alegre group include both large jars and
plates. The Muna group contains bowls, dishes, plates and jars.
